Good morning! Jesus makes a profound connection between love and obedience. Not in the way we might think in our natural minds that equate it as a transactional interaction. But it is a relational rhythm based on joyful alignment with eternal life found in His own relationship with the Father.
Jesus isn’t describing a transactional duty that likens obedience to fear or a desperate bid for approval. It is the gratitude of sharing in the Father's heart. To "remain" or "abide" in His love is to settle deeply into the truth of who He is and what He has done. Keeping His commands is not the path to earning His love, but the natural expression of living within it.
Just as a branch flourishes by staying attached to the vine, our lives naturally bear the fruit of righteousness when we stay tethered to Christ. When we trust His character, His instructions cease to feel like restrictive burdens and instead become the very guardrails that protect our joy and keep our hearts aligned with His.
Today, consider shifting your perspective on obedience. Instead of viewing God’s call to follow Him as a test to pass, see it as an invitation to rest. When you choose kindness, forgiveness, integrity, or sacrifice, you aren't trying to pull God closer. You are stepping deeper into the safety of the love He has already poured out for you. Let His perfect love be the motivation for your obedience today, trusting that abiding in Him is where true freedom and fullness of life are found as you make a great day!
