Sunday's Devotional - 9/13/2026

Good morning! Jesus was dealing with people in chapter 6 who had a shallow belief that only wanted to be entertained by the works of God rather than believe in Jesus as being the Son of God and also God Himself. They enjoyed the loaves and fishes multiplied to feed the masses, but lacked the true faith that trusted in Jesus to be the Christ.

They wanted power without surrender. Relationship without intimacy. Glory for themselves instead of glorifying God. They wanted to do the works of God without truly knowing Him or believing in Jesus. Even after He said this verse, they ask Him to perform another sign to prove Himself. They were so humanistic in their focus that they missed God doing the miracles and gave credit to men.

This is why Jesus kept giving hard teachings to move them beyond shallow vanity and move into a committed relationship. In verse 66, it says from that day forward many turned away and followed Him no more. If you only want Jesus for what He can do for you, you will never be satisfied and always be chasing miracles instead of Jesus, the miracle worker.

If your faith is in miracles, you will be deceived by false miracles. If you are power hungry, you will always walk in a form of godliness but have no real power. Be careful Jesus doesn't become a wishing well for you that you only come to when you need or want something. Believe in Him because He is the lover of your soul sent by God to purchase forgiveness for your sins. Commit to Him and He will commit to you and help you to always make a great day!
