Good morning! The Apostle Paul was not moved by the trials that awaited him. He said in the verses leading up to this verse that he knew chains, jail and trials awaited him. But that wasn't what moved him.
What moved him was his burden to finish the mission of proclaiming the gospel even all the way to Rome. He wanted to finish his race with joy knowing everything was accomplished that the Lord had for him to do.
I can relate in that the thing I fear is not having done all there was assigned for me to do before the end of my life some day, whenever that is. What is stopping you from finishing well? What is left undone? Are you pursuing Jesus and doing all that He has prepared for you to do or are you hiding until it's safe?
It will never be safe for Christians to proclaim the gospel. It is an offensive message that none are righteous accept God alone. Apart from Jesus, we will never get to heaven. That's offensive. But it carries the grace of God that helps us to finish well despite the surrounding challenges. Do all you can to finish well with joy as you make a great day!
