Good morning! The main thing I see in a genuine believer is the true change of heart. They don't desire to do the same things they always did or to live a life of sin any longer. You can see they are really born again.
Repentance means to change your mind and the direction of your life. Ephesians 4:28 says, "Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need." This is a portrait of repentance.
It's not just the stopping of one behavior, but a desire to change and do something in the opposite direction. We can only learn how to live a new life after being born again by asking Jesus to teach us His ways. This takes dedicated study of His word, being in fellowship with other believers in Bible study, discipleship class and church services, and prayer.
Whenever I read the word, I ask the Holy Spirit to teach me what I need to learn and to reveal the truth of the word to me. He answers that prayer every time. Learn to be a diligent student of the word and to desire to do God's will and He will help you to do that and to make a great day!
