Wednesday's Verse of the Day Devotional

ree

Good morning! Many times, I see people in church really struggling to worship because their kids are fidgeting or acting up which disrupts or distracts. I see them trying to get them to behave and to be honest, I struggled with this as a new parent as well.

What I learned is kids imitate what they see and repeat what they hear. So, I just told my kids, "we are here to worship the Lord and this is how you do it. Let's do it together, OK? Are you ready?" I engaged them with worship and they became worshipers. I trained them and they learned.

It's the same with the word. I taught them how to read the Bible and not just listen to mom and dad read it to them. We got them able to read well enough that they could read on their own. Our daily family devotionals ended up as a discussion.

I gave everyone a passage to read. We all read it by ourselves and then wrote down what stuck out to us in the verses. We looked at the similar things and the different things and how God was speaking to us through those things. I explained what the passage was really about and how what we saw could apply. Now my kids do this on their own to this day.

So, the next time your kids or grand kids bug you during worship, just grab them by the hand and teach them to worship and explain why it is important. They understand more than you think and will follow your lead once they understand it. Teach them to find God for themselves in the word and they will grow up to love Him. Do this and you will always help each other make a great day!
