Good morning! Many people use this verse as a springboard for their own agenda or ability. We have to be careful how we use Scripture and use it in proper context. This verse is talking about striving against sin; not scoring touchdowns, hitting home runs, winning a race or doing some feat of strength.
Not that there is anything wrong with those things necessarily, but this verse is not meant to give you confidence in your own personal abilities. It is meant to point you to Christ who never sinned as an example, motivation and source of ability to overcome sin. Do you trust in yourself or in Christ?
We all have a track record of doing things in our own strength. It results in sin. For we have all sinned and fallen short of God's great standard. But Jesus never sinned. We can't trust a sinner to make another sinner righteous. We have to trust the sinless One to make us righteous and the only sinless One is Christ. Trust in Him and His ability to resist all temptation and sin to help you resist it. He will help you with His grace and through Him, we can do all things to make a great day!
