Good morning! The Lord is so gracious and good. It's hard to think about His goodness and not be thankful. Sometimes, though, you can face something that is so painful, it's hard to be grateful. It can harden your heart and keep you from living with a grateful heart.
How do you get back from the numbness and hardness? You discipline yourself to say "thank you" for even one thing. Break your own will to not want to say it. You may not feel grateful and not want to say it at all. But, the moment you do, you align yourself with the will of God and break the rebellion that took root because of pain.
I know what I'm talking about because I've had to live this. When you can't find anything to be thankful for, go back to the cross and look at it again. Look at pictures of loved ones. Look at the food on your plate. Find something and force yourself to thank God for it. It breaks the pain off your heart and let's His love heal your broken heart.
Gratitude is the greatest emotional response tied to joy and a healthy mood. It's a scientific fact. When you become grateful, it will restore your joy and give you back a heart that isn't afraid to love. Then, you can declare the works of the Lord to others and show them God's goodness. Healing often happens through discipline to do what God says to do. Try it and see if you have been hurt. I promise you, if you take a week of being intentionally thankful, it will change your life. Make it habit to be thankful as you go and make a great day!
