Good morning! In the midst of pregnant travels and a government census, Mary is ready to give birth. The pain of the contractions were immense, especially since there was no epidural or medicine at this time. There was no place for them to stay and no hospitals with a comfy bed.
To say it was stressful is an understatement. The last thing a woman in labor wants is to wander around looking for a place to stay and give birth. They end up in a barn (manger) among animals in unclean conditions and no doctor. Stress!
She ends up giving birth in the less than ideal conditions and wraps up the Son of God in clothing not sterilized like we would expect. He is laid in a feeding trough for animals. What a night! Sometimes we expect perfection, especially in service to God and we get stressed out and frustrated when things don't go as planned or conditions are not what we think they should be. In the midst of stress, ask yourself, is this my desire to control the situation and circumstances?
A desire to control everything can cause unneeded anxiety and stress. This time of year has enough stress of its own, don't add to it by losing faith and trying to control everything. Trust the Lord, keep your peace and let Him fill you with the joy of hope that this season represents. It's not as much about the presents and it is His presence. It's not as much about the gifts as it is receiving the greatest gift of Jesus Christ. Keep your head, enjoy the moments and make some memories as you make a great day!
