Thursday's Verse of the Day Devotional

Good morning! The greatest wisdom we can have is to fear the Lord. Jesus Himself even said do not fear man who can destroy the body, but fear God who can destroy both the body and soul and throw it into hell. We need to have a reverence for God.

Modernly, Christianity has lost the fear of the Lord. They think grace means you can do whatever you want. They cheapen the blood of Jesus by thinking they don't need to ask for forgiveness or repent of sin. We've lost the awe of His power and sovereignty.

God is love, yes, but He is first holy. That's what separates Him from every other thing in creation. His holiness gives His love value because His holiness demands justice, but His love provides mercy. His love grants us grace when we deserve judgment and that is what makes His love so amazing despite His holiness.

If He was only holy, we would all be given death as the just punishment for our sins. But because He is also love, we are given Christ as a payment for the penalty of our sins. Wisdom tells us He is holy, Understanding tells us He loves us. Fear the Lord, yes, but know because of Jesus, we are loved beyond measure and have forgiveness. Never take it for granted! Live godly and love like Jesus as you make a great day!
