Good morning! I hear this quoted a lot by people who use it for an excuse to beat people up with words in the name of Jesus. Correcting people who are in a destructive pathway or sin is to be done with love, but love is not beating them over the head with Scripture and ending it with "I'm just doing it in love."
To do it in love means in the spirit of gentleness with the goal to restore people to righteousness, not just to tell them off in Jesus' name so you feel better and proved yourself right. If you just want to tell someone off, that's pride, not love. You can be correct but not lead someone back to the cross. The wrong approach will hurt people instead of heal and restore them. Love considers others better than yourself (Philippians 2:3).
Love seeks restoration and growth. Even in a rebuke, it should be done to wake the person up to their folly, not debase them over their failure. Love speaks the truth not to prove itself right but to lead people to the promise of eternal life. It helps others to grow and sets them free from lies and error. It protects them from the enemy's deception. Seek to lead others to a relationship with Christ and help them grow into the fullness of maturity in Christ as you make a great day!
