Good morning! When a sin was committed, the sinner would go to the high priest with a sacrifice to atone for their sin. The high priest would go into the Tent of Meeting into the Holy of Holies once a year to atone for the sin of all the people. He himself had to be upright before God.
He had to do everything right or he would be struck down by God's presence and holiness. Then, there would be a strenuous process to pick another high priest. He would make a sacrifice for his own sins and then for the sins of the people. Our acceptance in God would be based on His acceptance of the high priest.
Jesus was perfect and never sinned. He fulfilled every part of the law. He made atonement for our sin in heaven's tabernacle. He became our great High Priest. We have no need for another. He knew no sin and became sin for us. In turn, when we believe in Him, we become righteous by His blood.
His atonement covered our sin under the law and His blood purchased a new and better covenant that not only atoned for our sin, but redeemed us from our sin. He is righteousness and when we put our faith in Him, we hide our life in Him and become the righteousness of God. But you have to be in Him to be righteous. Thank Him for the gift of eternal life as you make a great day!
