Good morning! To say you believe in Jesus but do not need to follow is a deception. If you believe Jesus is Lord but do not think you need to follow Him, then you really don't believe He is Lord or you don't understand what that term means.
A lord is a ruler, often a king, that rules a feudal society meaning the exchange of land for service, creating a network of obligations among different social classes. Jesus gives us access to heaven and in exchange, we serve Him in His kingdom.
Why? Because we cannot take away our own sins. In America, in exchange for living in its borders, you agree to abide by the laws and be a productive member of society. You then have access to all the opportunities America has to offer as a benefit. To live in the kingdom of God, we agree to turn from sin and our own way of living in exchange for eternal life.
We agree to be productive for the kingdom and gain the benefit of knowing Jesus personally. We don't just do what the word says out of duty alone though. We do it because we don't want to hurt the one we love. If you love Jesus, you experience His love in return. Then, doing what He says is not burdensome, but joyous and beneficial. You get to know the One who not only saved you, but loves you! Think about this today as you hear and do the word and make a great day!
