Sunday's Verse of the Day Devotional

Good morning! James reminds of what God has done before this verse. He reminds us of the importance of enduring hardship and staying faithful to God in trials. He warns us of the power of sin to destroy us.

Then we get to this verse that lays out a pattern of self-control in the heat of battle and moment of great strife. Listening is probably the most under-utilized skill in today's culture. Listening brings understanding and allows discernment time to reveal what is behind the veil of words.

It is tempting to listen only for a response in retaliation, but take time to process what was said. Pray before you respond and only respond if it is needed, prompted by the Holy Spirit and in the right spirit; not in anger, vengeance or wrath.

James finishes this sentence with verse 20 saying, "for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God." All that God does is righteous. All we do is unrighteous apart from from Him. So, think about this often, rely of the Holy Spirit and reflect Jesus in all you do as you go and make a great day!
