Good morning! Jesus came to point people to the way of salvation. He is that way to salvation and besides Him, there is no other way. He used a lot of Jewish customs so the Jews would understand exactly what He was saying. We miss a lot of the context without knowing the customs and culture of the Jews, especially in that day.
A shepherd would lead his flock to safety and have a place to keep them penned up, especially at night, to protect them from predators and harm. Sheep get lost easily and do not have homing skills to know which way is home. They need lead and protected.
In the countryside, a shepherd would make a circular rock wall with a small opening. He would lead the sheep through the opening at night and sit in the opening, becoming the door. He would watch and sleep in the opening to keep the sheep in and predators out.
Jesus is that door for His sheep. He leads us to the safety of salvation knowing we can become easily lost and succumb to the enemy. He guards us and protects us as a good shepherd. He leads us not into temptation, but delivers us from evil. He is the door of the sheep and the only entrance into heaven. You cannot go through any others means for salvation. He gives us safety and rest so we can live in peace. Let Him lead you home and keep you in the fold as you learn Hi voice and make each day a great day!
