Good morning! This verse gets hacked up a lot. Many people I've heard quote this verse completely ignore the first part and only quote that "God will give you the desires of your heart." The first part is the qualifier and reveals what the desires of your heart really are.
What is the desires of your heart? What gives your heart delight? If you delight yourself in the Lord, that's when He gives you the desires of your heart. Why? Because He is what you desire and take delight in.
I've found when I want something that I often work hard or sell things I don't want to get what I do only to feel disappointed or unsatisfied with it. It's happened many times with musical equipment. But, every time I ask the Lord to show me what He wants me to have, even if I don't think I'd like it, it works out great and better than I could have imagined.
Trust Him and what He has for your life. He knows what is best for you and knows you better than you know yourself. It's in that trust you learn to desire to please God and make Him happy. In doing so, He makes you happy by giving you what is best, not what's left over. Delight yourself in the Lord and let Him overflow your heart with joy as you make a great day!
