Good morning! In starting a new year, it is important for us going into it having the proper perspective of who Jesus is. There are eight "I Am" statements in the Gospel of John that Jesus declared about Himself. This is the first of those statements.
He said, "I am the bread of life." This may seem strange if you don't know the Old Testament very well. When the children of Israel were in the desert after leaving Egypt, God gave bread from heaven to sustain them for forty years. Jesus is the bread from heaven that came down and sustains us for eternity when we put our faith in Him.
He is the source of life, sustenance, spiritual nourishment and divine provision. He promises to provide when we trust Him. He told us not to worry for a reason. Last night, I awoke abruptly by the smell of something burning. My furnace had quit working and the blower motor was very hot and not working.
I don't know what all is wrong with my furnace and will find out when the HVAC man arrives, but I know the Lord will provide. I'm hoping it is simple, inexpensive and quick to fix because it's cold and we need heat. But I trust no matter what, God will provide because Jesus is the bread of life. No mater what you face, put it in God's hands and trust Jesus to be enough for you as you make a great day!
