Good morning! Farmers would understand this verse about rain especially in Israel. The former rain would come shortly after planting the seeds for a crop. The latter rain would come just before harvest to ripen the crop.
Prophetically, the former rain is a spiritual outpouring and the latter rain is another outpouring. It started on the Day of Pentecost at the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and started the New Testament church.
The latter rain is the outpouring of His Spirit once again to bring in the last harvest before the return of Christ. We are seeing it happen. College campuses are breaking out into revival all over America. People are taking the gospel to the streets and seeing hundreds and even thousands getting saved in places like California.
Hebrews chapter 12:25-29 tells us of this outpouring and warns us not to refuse the Lord when He speaks. He spoke on the mountain to Moses to give the law on the first Pentecost. He poured out His Spirit on the Apostles in the upper room on the Day of Pentecost after Christ had resurrected and ascended to heaven.
He will pour His Spirit out once more before Jesus returns to bring in the last day harvest. These are the days we live in. Make Jesus a priority, get in a doctrinally sound church and go often.
